Coalition Building
Strengthening and building coalitions and partnerships with government departments, civil society groups, media and medical fraternity is one of the key mandates of Girls Count. We are working to build proactive solidarity and mutual campaign support relationships with each one of them and focus on campaigns where the core mandates are mutually reinforced. Girls Count is also part of the Expert Group that has been constituted to draft a guidance note addressing the conflation in the implementation of MTP and PCPNDT Acts.
Regional Consultations
Girls Count, along with its various coalition partners across the nation, is organising a series of regional consultations on 'Beti Bachao Beti Padhao: Building a Collective Response - Strengthening Civil Society Engagement and Community Action' scheduled in the months of October, November and December, 2015. These consultations are being organised in collaboration with Ministry of Women and Child Development, Govt. of India, National Foundation of India (NFI), Ipas India, UN Women and United Nations Populations Fund (UNFPA).
The objective of these Consultations is to bring together various stakeholders like representatives of NGOs, CBOs, state government officials and experts on women and gender issues to discuss and deliberate on different aspects of sex ratio at birth (SRB), child sex ratio (CSR) and different forms of discrimination against women and girls and finally evolve a common strategy and a road map for the year 2016. These consultations also aim to build a collective response to the government's Beti Bachao Beti Padhao initiative in respective regions and shape civil society engagement with this initiative in a more cohesive and consistent manner.
These consultations would cover 28 states and union territories across India. These dialogues will provide a platform for consolidating the efforts of various organizations and networks in different regions to create substantial ways to support Beti Bachao Beti Padhao scheme.
